Greetings Volunteers, we’d like to thank you for volunteering with Keep Austin Beautiful and Capital Cruises. You'll be working on giving some extra care to the lake and trails of our beloved Lady Bird Lake. You have signed up to participate in the Capital Cruises Shoreline cleanup. Kayaks are available via waterway registration but if you are uncomfortable going out on the water, we'll have you focus on litter abatement along the hike & bike trail. All ages are welcome at this site with adult supervision. ** Just as a reminder, this is a shoreline cleanup and does not involve boats.**

Your Lake Leader for this site will be The Capital Cruises Staff and they will have your cleanup supplies, helpful safety guidelines, and further instructions for you.

Event Details

·    Starting Location: Capital Cruises (208 Barton Springs Rd., Austin, TX 78704)

·    Parking: Parking is available underneath the S. 1st bridge or the Vic Mathias Shores parking lot

·    Things to Bring: A FULL bottle of water, sunscreen, a hat, and a snack

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel your shift at your earliest convenience to re-open those spots for registration.

“Know Before You Go”

Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:

  • Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
  • Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity. 
  • Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
  • Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.
