Abish Faith Mendoza

This was my second time working with the group of students from Christenberry elementary. I worked alongside Quinetara over a group of four. This group was dedicated, listened intentionally, and inquisitive. This was the first time that the Christenberry group worked with knifes and it went successfully, the kids were aware of their surroundings and happy to learn about the difference between mincing vs. dicing. I am so thankful for this program in allowing me to make strong connections with the children of our community.

I have volunteered with LCBC several times in the past, however this was my first time with the Christenberry elementary group. I was so impressed with the overall group of children and the specific group of 5th grade boys that I directed in baking black bean brownies and making a super smoothie. I worked alongside Judi who was a very helpful partner. The group of boys I worked with were very knowledgeable and willing to try new things. They kept the area tidied and took turns without me having to facilitate directly. I really like the new aspect of having a group presenter for when meal time is served, it helps build confidence in speaking (which is something I know I needed as a child). Overall, this was a great experience coming back to LCBC for the new year.
