Welcome to El Buen! You are one step closer in helping us strengthen a family's ability to improve their physical, emotional and financial wellbeing by promoting educational attainment, job promotion and family engagement! Our volunteers help us from home! This program is mostly virtual with two in-person volunteer opportunities.

At El Buen Samaritano, our volunteers can make a lasting difference in the lives of Austin families by volunteering to teach ESL classes for a semester. Anyone with native or near native fluency in English who is motivated to help others can apply to teach. By committing a few hours a week, you can strengthen our community and share the tools of the English language to a classroom of motivated adult learners.

Volunteers will support weekly virtual English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for our adult students Starting February 1st to May 19th. This semester we will be offering in-person conversation classes to help students practice their English every Monday evening and Friday morning. Volunteers are needed for our formal virtual classes and our informal conversation classes.

Teaching: Each week, volunteers will teach English VIRTUALLY by following our fully built curriculum using the Cambridge-Ventures book with support from our Adult Education team! For our conversation classes, we will have no book (informal), we will work on activities to encourage practicing English. Teaching Assistants are also needed, help our lead teachers take attendance and support in lessons.

Location: Will classes be in-person or online? All our classes will be taught virtually via Zoom for Spring 2022 except for our conversation classes that will be held in-person every Monday evenings and Friday mornings.

Qualifications: A desire to help our community, open to other cultures and a sense of fun! Teaching experience is a bonus but not required. Spanish is NOT a requirement.
