Información
Twas' the night before December 14th and all along the shore no critters were stirring - just litter galore! The volunteers were getting ready to pick up litter with joy and help keep the lake a place everyone can enjoy!
Thank you for joining Keep Austin Beautiful on our last Clean Lady Bird Lake event of 2024! On Saturday, December 14th, join our team in wearing your best (litter collecting-friendly) holiday season attire to help clean Lady Bird Lake! Since 2009, Keep Austin Beautiful has organized large-scale cleanups of Lady Bird Lake every other month. We train volunteer leaders to conduct cleanups at multiple locations along the shoreline and on the water. We are looking forward to everyone joining us for cooler weather and giving our lake some much needed TLC.
“Know Before You Go”
Before you head out, please keep the following in mind:
- Be aware that toxic algae blooms can occur in Lady Bird Lake. Whenever you're around natural bodies of water, remain vigilant.
- Recognize that zebra mussels are invasive and widespread in Texas waterways. Let us know if you see any zebra mussels during your volunteer activity.
- Be able to identify poison ivy, oak, and sumac; identifying these plants is essential for a safe cleanup.
- Hydrate and take precautions to prevent heat-related illnesses. Consult this guide for tips on recognizing and addressing heat-related issues.
- For directions on where you are going for your cleanup - look at the Clean Lady Bird Lake Maps available!
- Per Texas State Law, life vests are required for everyone and must be worn at all times for anyone 13 years and younger. For more information, consult TPWD for more information.
