November service learning hours for Mrs. Timby’s class. I spend 5 hours this month collecting books from various thrift stores, family’s attics, and friends storage units. I also spent time reaching out to friends and collecting books from them. I am excited to bring them in to OLC so that they can be used in the Little Libraries!
I got to spend time on Thursday night with a combined class of learners playing charades. The main goal of the game was to get students to further explain and exercise their english skills. It helps the students to give clues and use multiple words in english to describe the card that is on their headband. I enjoyed playing that game with everyone!
Observing and collecting books for the Ozark Literacy Council has been an incredible and insightful experience. They have created a welcoming community for people of all different backgrounds and provide amazing resources.
Today was really fun! Since it is Halloween everyone brought different foods that are native to the country they are from. We talked about the history of Halloween and what everyone use to do for different holidays back home.
I was able to meet with Patty Sullivan and donate old books I had from my childhood and teenage years for service hours. It was really amazing to know that books I never look at anymore are going to help children and adults improve their literacy skills in the future.
I spent an hour going to various thrift stores to find books! Potter's House had a lot of really great books for both children and young adults, and they were having a massive sale so the books with almost free! I'm excited to bring all the books into OLC.
