I found the find your impact zoom meeting to be very informative! In the zoom session, we first heard from “Big Brothers, Big Sisters.” This is a cool program that pairs a child in need of a good role model, to someone who can fulfill that role. Next, we heard about Empower. I previously knew about this program because my sorority does events with them but it was cool to hear more about it.
I was given the opportunity to learn about the amazing program that the University of Arkansas has to offer to select students that typically have special needs. I think it is such a wonderful thing that our school has and allow us to be able to be apart of it too by volunteering to be a big brother or sister as a mentor. I think the bonds and connections that are made through this are life changing for both people.
This zoom call discussed the different ways to get involved with mentoring on campus. The first presentation was from a representative from the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program. She talked about many ways to get involved including lunch buddies, sports buddies, and group mentoring. She mentioned the statistics of their program and how the kids that are mentored score higher on Arkansas testing than their unmentored peers which I found very interesting. The next presentation was from a representative from the Empower Program. She discussed what the program is about and their demographics. Empower helps students work on social skills, independent living, financial responsibility, etc. Overall, the two presentations were very interesting and gave me great insight and information to get involved with mentoring on campus.
Very insightful about empower and big brother/sister.
Two very cool volunteer opportunities!
This was an awesome opportunity that I wish I would've found sooner. I loved hearing about both organizations but I really felt connected to the big brother and sister program. This organization is something I have heard so much about and now after hearing from a representative I would really be interested in serving in later semesters.
I am so glad I got to learn about these certain impacts and how they have affected the lives of many. I am excited to look into these organizations and possibly apply myself to them. Thank you for having me.
This was a great presentation and I am so glad I joined to hear about these amazing programs.
