I learned the importance of tailoring a resume to each specific job by using relevant keywords from the job description. The workshop emphasized using clear, concise language and strong action verbs to highlight accomplishments rather than just listing duties. It also covered formatting tips, like keeping it to one page (especially for early career professionals), using bullet points for readability, and ensuring consistency in style. We also reviewed how to effectively showcase skills, education, and experience to make a strong first impression.
I loved this session about resumes! Even tho I have some background on resumes and cover letters, it was great to learn more information I can use in my next resume.
Very good meeting helped me understand the format and also gave examples
Something I learned is that when talking about your work experience you first add an action verb, then the content, then either result, purpose, or impact.
My biggest takeaway was the advice to list your education in reverse chronological order. You should start with your graduate degree (if you have one), followed by your bachelor's, then associate's or community college, and only list high school if necessary. I never knew that before, but it makes sense and helps highlight your most recent education. Also, I learned that having a LinkedIn profile and including it on your resume is really valuable.
I learned a lot about key words, grammar to use in my resume, ATS which is a software that reads resumes, and how to build my resume so it stays relevant to job post and for it not be skipped by ATS.
