Completed service hours at the Cotton Ave location.
Had the opportunity to work with Youth Towers downtime location and sit in for an initial assessment with client.
Yesterday we completed the orientation with the Youth Towers staff. What I liked most about this experience was the meeting location and the presentation. I did not experience any challenges for this impact. I would like to emphasize how the choice of location for the orientation helped deepen my understanding of the challenges faced by unhoused youths. The location for the orientation was held at a residence in the Ensley Community, which is part of the Youth Towers Better Safe Place Transitional/Rapid Rehousing Program. By the agency conducting the orientation in this environment, rather than a formal office space, it provided a more immersive and authentic perspective. Furthermore, as a social worker it is vital to experience the environment firsthand. It can foster a deeper, more empathetic perspective of the realities clients face and insights into the community dynamics.
The presentation by Ms. Westery was done professionally and authentically, not just because of the setting, but also because of the energy and passion of Ms. Westery. Her insights were lived, shaped by years of advocating for vulnerable populations. Youth Towers represents her commitment for advocacy to social justice. The presentation was inspiring and it reinforced the idea that effective social work requires empathy, respect for individual dignity, and unlimited dedication to those we serve.
