For this volunteer time I mostly steamed clothes that were preparing to go out on the floor. I also helped clean donated shoes and put sticker on them with the size and price. After I completed this I helped place the priced shoes out onto the floor so they could be purchased. It was so fun to talk to the other volunteers and learn more about them!
This was so cool to learn more about Apple seeds NWA and ways that I could get involved. I also loved hearing about Beautiful Lives boutique because I have volunteered there several times and love all the women who work there.
I volunteered for the Recess study abroad event. My job was to stand by the door and welcome guests who attended. I was also responsible for making sure that attendees were able to scan the QR code and knew about the different booths that they could go to.
This meeting was awesome in showing me about different volunteer programs. I heard from Americorps Vista, the children advocacy center, and lifestyles inc. My favorite was hearing about americorps vista program and how you would be payed to work for the organization. It was also awesome to hear from a girl who was currently working for them and so I was able to get a genuine opinion of the experience. I also loved hearing about lifestyles inc and how they catered to the disabled community. I am currently a volunteer for empower and I love it! So, I was so excited to hear about another local organization who helps disabled people integrate into community life.
Jordan and I met at hill coffee to complete some of her homework for the week! We worked on one of her video assignments for her rural families and communities class.
I met with my mentee Jordan for our weekly tutoring session. We ended up working in a library study room because she had to film a video assignment for one of her classes. I helped her write a script for her video and helped her present it. We ended up finishing her assignment and submitting it early. Since her computer does not like the video format it took us a while to get started but we figured it out!
I mentored Jordan on 1/25. We meet once a week on Wednesdays and I help her with her homework and other assignments that she has due that week. This session we worked on an essay that she had due in her Families in Crisis class. We also did a discussion post for one of her other classes and talked about rules that she had in her house. We met at Chi o and did her homework there during the snow day!
This was my first session mentoring Jordan! We met on campus at the hill coffee and then walked over together to the library where I booked a study room for us. We did a video project for one of her classes where she had to talk about her family, friends, and favorite activities. After this we did a discussion post for one of her other classes where she made a powerpoint slide about her family and friends as well. I think these sessions are so fun and I have enjoyed hearing about what she is passionate about.
It was so awesome to be a part of this! We wrote encouraging things on the ground in front of the library and the union. It was also so fun that a lot of girls from my sorority also attended so it made the experience even more fun. We wrote encouraging stuff like "you are so beautiful", "You got this", and "you are so loved". I had never heard of this club before so I'm glad to have gotten their name out there by signing each encouraging saying with #astra which is the name of the club who organized this event.
