Volunteering at Blazer Kitchen has significantly impacted my understanding of the UAB community. It has helped me recognize the disparities and food insecurity that individuals face within our community. I would like to pursue a study that encompasses health and aims to provide assistance. This study would not only benefit me personally but also enhance my collaborative and communication skills, which are all valuable assets for my overall growth and development.

This experience has significantly impacted my understanding of community by highlighting the immense need for assistance. The most significant challenge lies in motivating people to come forward and contribute. The HOSA and LifeSouth blood drives play a crucial role in effectively communicating the impact and encouraging more members to participate.

Working at Blazer Kitchen has deepened my understanding of the Birmingham community by teaching me about the food security challenges faced by people in and around the university and city. I see my work at the food bank as connected to my major because it relates to community health and wellness. As a biomedical science major, I recognize that nutrition and overall health are fundamental to my field. This experience has helped me improve my communication skills, my ability to collaborate with others, and my willingness to ask for help.
