This past week, the Design Team created the presentation that was given to Free Minds in class on Wednesday, and showed the contributions that our group gave to the project this semester. We included slides that showed our process, and the different concepts we had, as well as how we got to the final direction. At the end of the presentation we showed mockups of the LIV/BRE zine, that displayed the cover (front and back), foreword, contents, 2 poem spreads, 2 comments spreads, and the colophon.

During this last week, we spent time refining the details of our deliverables and creating our presentation for Free Minds. We split up some responsibilities and met on Sunday after revisions so that we could practice who would be saying what, on average how long we would be speaking per slide, and the overall tone we wanted for the presentation. On Monday, after we presented the brand identity to Free Minds, I had not been expecting to feel as fulfilled as I did. I think I had gotten so caught up in the busyness and stress of the work, and hearing their feedback and reactions was amazing. Our goal throughout this entire process was to present the organization with a brand identity that would properly depict the values of Free Minds, who they truly are, and the extraordinary work that they do. Seeing how happy they were and the questions they asked in terms of how they could move forward with it, felt like we had achieved that goal.
For the past two weeks, most of the work my group did involved revising our final deliverables and refining the details of the logo, word mark, and typography. We've split up the final deliverables in order to be more efficient, whilst also dividing it up based of each team member's visual languages. At the same time, we work collaboratively by checking in and giving each other feedback on our Miro board. In class today we got to a point where most of the deliverables were completed, which only leaves the final presentation and brand manual. I am excited with where we're at and looking forward to seeing Free Mind's reaction to our work!
During the past two weeks, Design Team worked on laying out the LIVBRE publication and made sure everything was prepared for review and then print. After receiving some feedback from the class, we spent time revising it, including the cover collage, type treatments for both the exterior and interior, and how the folios were working out with the poem spreads and comments pages. After everything was completed, we also sent out our files to the Communication and Production teams so that they could use the work mark and other components to keep some consistency throughout all the deliverables.
Our team spent some time during our Saturday meeting going through the iterations we had created and picking out our most successful logo, business cards, and letterheads and created a presentation to give to Free Minds as an update for final direction. During class, we split up our final deliverables list for what we know we are able to complete for the branding and style guide. This really feels like the exciting part because moving forward we will be refining the details of what we already have done, as well as adding it onto mockups of the items they requested!
I spent about an hour revising my comments spread based on the feedback I got on Miro. Design Team spent a couple hours doing a few different meetings with the other teams. We began with sketches, and then after we got feedback from each other and from other teams, we created a schematic proposals. I primarily worked on mockups for our first concept as well as the presentation document.
Near the end of last week, we each created new sketches on our own and then during our meeting on Saturday, which lasted about an hour, we discussed the new research we had, and what we planned to do moving forward. During the rest of the weekend, the logo sketch we liked best was digitized and revised, and we also spent time searching for possible typefaces. During class, we struggled a bit, and decided as a team that the best way to move forward would be to choose a final direction, including "free minds" handwritten, so that the identity could still be dynamic. I think this was a good choice for us, because we all agreed that this way we would be able to spend more time refining and making sure the identity is done to the best of our ability. After class, we spent a couple hours researching new typefaces and creating new iterations of business card and letterhead. I'm excited to move forward with this final direction, and start the refining process of the logo and type!

Our Team met on Saturday 3/20 to discuss the feedback we received from Free Minds, as well as a plan for our essay and final direction. Throughout the weekend, we organized out what each of us was going to write for the essay, and what points were necessary to synthesize in writing. During class, we discussed new logos that would include both elements from Schematic 1 and 2, as well as how this final direction effects the deliverables.
I spent a few hours working on different concepts for my comments page. I was attempting to use a similar solution for the comments page that I used for my poem, but also ensuring readability. Also, Design Team planned out a Creative Brief, where we designated our goals and responsibilities individually as well along with the other teams.
The final poem layout involved a lot of experimentation, and pushing myself out of my comfort zone. I wanted to make sure I was honoring the poet's words and allowing them to still be readable, whilst also balancing the experimentation and adjustments in scale, leading, kerning, tracking, and orientation. Ultimately, I am happy with where I landed with the final.

♥️ indeed you did! 👏
