Teaching Garden Volunteer

We really enjoyed what a beautiful day it was and working in the garden. We we’re greeted by a woman who was kind enough ti show us around the chicken coop area and a beautiful bunny was enjoying it self as well.It was feeding time for them.We had been getting lots of rain so there was plenty of volunteer mint and dill popping up.Removed lots of competition weeds that were blocking good air flow at the bottom of a few rows. The garden looked very healthy and well. I was observing lots of Purple Martin’s and pollinators. Will definitely be back.Time flew by very fast.
Justin the coordinator at the garden was very helpful and kind and we had a good conversation about plants and the land.

Wildlife Field Research - Spring 2023

We had a great time learning how to survey area to lay down traps to survey protected native species.Three small mammals were the primary subjects.
Cotton Rat (native) sīmdon hispidus
N. Pigmy Mouse (Native) Bāiomys taylori
House Mouse Mus muscūlus (non native)

We did indeed learn that other animals may at times try and enter the traps it is seldom the case.

Met some other enthusiastic naturalists. Our guide Mikel Spivey was fantastic to work with.Excited to hear the results were that 2 cotton rats were caught and released.wondering what intersect it was. I’m also motivated to dedicate more time to the research in various areas.Quality experience.
