The SGA meeting went well. There were some network issues towards the end. But great information overall.
During the meeting we received guidance on a couple of things:
1. The early voting transportation from the college
2. Additional courses that opened up for cyber security
3. The emergency procedures when we have to shelter in place on campus
4. Being cautious the different emails that we open in our school email box
5. Having awareness that our campus has a number of different resources for mental health, food assistance, diapers and brith control.
6. In person assistance with resume building

EVENT: POV: You're Looking for an Opportuntiy (Event Hosted by CDI)
During this session I learned to think outside the box when it comes to my career in Culinary Arts. I should not focus too much on my job title but instead focus on my skills and how they can transfer over to other positions in my industry.
Look into all my resources not just job posts but also career fairs, networking with other organizations and career platforms.
I also want to be aware of job scams that are out there asking for money.
Three key action items for me is to have in place is making sure that I plan everything out. Doesn't mean that everything will turn out as planned but I have to start somewhere.
Making realistic goals is another. Having a learning disability and wanting to finish all my class and work is a lot of pressure on me. During class I am hearing everything, but my mind does not process it like other minds do. That can be crippling for me because I want to be normal. Being a full-time student is not easy for someone with a learning disability so realistic goals is definitely a challenge for me.
Also making sure that I not only plan my classes out but also my personal life because they can definitely bump heads. Lots of stuff I want to do but when I go to classes in the morning and night, there is little room for a personal life. Especially since I work too.
Ok first of all the school has to do better with letting us know the time change with the games. Like if I didn't stay at the school the entire day, I would not have known the game was no longer at 6pm. I just so happened to choose to take advantage of my day off and work on my assignments. Second, I am thinking I have to support more because it is my school playing. Third, good effort for our boys' soccer team but it was a dreadful game against Montgomery. We didn't score not one goal.
Well at least the girls scored a goal compared to the boy's game. I will say this I thought the girls game was more entertaining than the boys. A little more attitude on the field.
Some of the reminders given during the mini session were the following:
Hours will not be verified untill Oct 1
We need to make sure your email ends with pgcc.edu
Always make sure the events are open before registration
Don’t rush anything because you will miss the important things
During this refresh session we were reminded of the following:
1. 15 event hours required each semester
2. We need to keep in mind that not all events are hosted by PGCC
3. We should not wait until the last minute to submit our hours
4. We cannot fall below 2.0 gpa
In my role as a student volunteer for the promise scholarship Launch Orientation Street Team, I was assigned to guide new students through campus, provide them with valuable insight into college life at PGCC. I also worked with others to make sure the events at the orientation were done seamlessly. I also was assigned to oversee the beverage and food services for all attendees.
This session provided all scholarship recipients reminders of all requirements to remain on the scholarship such as the following:
1. Never wait until the last minute to get involved in your 15 hours requirement
2. Don’t have pride when asking for help
3. You have to have a 2.5 gpa to stay on the scholarship
4. Only go to 2 sessions -but can chose which ones
In participating in this event, I met the CAB department who put together events at PGCC. They informed us of the application process for students who wish to join the Cab Activities Board. As a group we took part of an ice breaker activity. We broke into groups where we were given an object to create an activity based on the object. I was placed in group 1 and the object was a flip flop. My group planned an end of spring semester activity to kick off the summer. All students and staff will wear flip flops and it will be on campus. The board thought it was a good idea and will keep in mind for the future.
